Day 7 – AFE ESL/ELD Placement

We worked with students in the A cohort today. There were 10 students in class today.

Activity

1) We started the day with a review lesson on vocabulary for terms like computer, mouse, monitor, screen, IPAD etc.

2) We did a mini lesson on the types of lines

3) Students then drew out a sheet filled with boxes where they could practise drawing the different kinds of lines.

4) Students and the teacher then co created different ways to say Thank You in different languages

5) Students then filled out half an A4 sheet of paper with the word Thank You in a specific languages and a line design around it

Learning

1) The Associate Teacher told me about her process to design cumulative projects for the program. She first thought of a creative way for students to express themselves in the form of a project. Then she aligned the final project with the curricular standards.

2) She said that she uses a lot of design elements in her class as she was a graphic designer by profession before she became a teacher.

3) In any class it is beneficial to make students create work that may be meaningful to them. When they see they can add value to the school based on their current experience they will become more engaged in learning activities.

4) In an ELD/ESL class show students work created by their peers. These can be finished products that they can observe and use as a scaffold to create their own projects.
